Rajasthan, the cradle of hand block printing, is renowned for its vibrant artistry deeply rooted in the region rich cultural heritage. This workshop invites you to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of block printing, where natural colors and traditional patterns come to life. Over the course of a day, you will work alongside skilled artisans, gaining hands-on experience in this timeless craft. From start to finish, you'll witness how unique motifs are intricately combined to form stunning designs.

What You​ will Learn
The fundamentals of vegetable dyes
Techniques for block printing using natural dyes
Methods to naturally fix colors
Insight into the plants and shrubs used for dyeing and printing

What to Expect
The workshop begins with a guided field tour of the factory, where you​ will learn about the different types of natural dyes and their applications. The program leader will provide an overview of natural dye printing, covering essential techniques and the botanical sources of the dyes. You’ll examine various hand-block printed textile samples to understand the subtle distinctions between designs.

Next, you​ will dive into the step-by-step process of block printing. Each stage will be carefully demonstrated before you try your hand at creating your own masterpiece. Choose from a collection of wooden blocks to print a cotton scarf (included in the program kit) under the guidance of an experienced craftsperson.

If time allows, you can print additional items such as scarves, cushion covers, stoles, tablecloths, aprons, or t-shirts for an additional fee.

Post-Printing Process
You’ll also explore the post-printing steps, which include boiling, dyeing, color fixing, and washing. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a completed stole to take home​-a​  token of your creative journey and a testament to sustainable fashion.

Materials Provided: One cotton stole (1.80 meters), natural dyes, and all necessary supplies for printing and finishing
Tools: Wooden blocks for printing
Refreshments: Tea, bottled water, and biscuits
Lunch: Vegetarian meals are available at an additional cost
Note: The precinct maintains a vegetarian policy—meat, eggs, and alcohol are not permitted.
